What Is Blue Dye Indicator?
You may have noticed the “blue lawn look” before, but what does it actually mean? This temporary color comes from a spray dye indicator, which helps ensure thorough and even coverage during weed control services.
Learn more about how we use spray indicator dye and what to expect with Barefoot Lawn Care’s weed control treatments.
Why We Use Blue Indicator Dye in Weed Control
Originally used in the golf industry, we’ve successfully applied this technique to Carolina lawns for over 20 years. Unlike pigments, which can permanently stain surfaces, our water-based dye naturally fades with watering and sunlight.
While using it does come at a higher cost to us, we believe the weed benefits are well worth it:
- Tracks Coverage: Helps our technicians deliver complete lawn coverage.
- Non-Poisonous & Eco-Friendly: Safe for your lawn, pets and the environment.
- Does Not Affect Weed Control: The dye is purely visual and does not impact treatment effectiveness.

Application Methods for Our Weed Control Treatments
We use two precise methods for applying weed control with a blue dye spray indicator:
By hand for lawns under 13,500 sq. ft. | Via a compact riding Z-sprayer for lawns over 13,500 sq. ft. |
---|---|

Both methods are calibrated daily for accurate distribution, ensuring consistent results across your lawn. While not every inch of your turf may appear blue (especially in the winter and spring), our spreader/sticker technology means even coverage as the treatment disperses with watering.
The Weed Control Results You Can Expect

Our weed control techniques have delivered results for over 35 years. Just look at the difference between the untreated lawn on the left and the Barefoot Lawn Care-treated lawn on the right.
While you may still notice some unavoidable weed breakthroughs along turf edges or in wet areas, the results speak for themselves.
Our Commitment to Weed Control Quality
At Barefoot Lawn Care, we take pride in delivering proven results backed by decades of experience. Our owners, Scott and Eugene, remain actively involved in daily operations, working alongside our full team of weed control technicians to ensure every application is precise and consistent.
